NKP190.com (or at least most of it) is online! Some facts about the site: It is designed so that Doyle himself can update it. The latest updates will always appear on the main page while all the updates will be catalogued on the updates page. I hope you enjoy the site!

The latest from Brooklyn Roundhouse:
The electrical cabinet has been shoehorned into place and welded in. This forms the back wall of the cab and contains all the electrical control equipment for the locomotive. Now comes the job of running all the wires to where they need to go. The air compressor has been removed from the organ donor (ex-BCR 688) and is the next big piece to be installed. We are shooting for mid January for the installation of the engine and main generator.
Photos coming soon.

The weather in Portland has been cooperating so the PA was rolled outside today so that the work could take advantage of the natural light. Here is a photo.

After a few months of silence, I decided it was time to get things rolling on the website once again. I took several pictures last week. Follow the below links to see the electrical cabinet and the control stand mechanism. Look for a new gallery of photos in the next few days. Also, plans are in the works to get regular updates (dare we hope--weekly?) going. Control Stand - Electrical Cabinet

Work on the PA is on hold due to the fact that Doyle is in Canada for the month assisting in the operation of Canadian Pacific's Hudson #2816. Before he left, work was progressing on affixing the plastic strips which will hold on the sheet metal "skin" on the sides of the body.

On July 17, 2003, "Crane Day" took place, wherein the PA got its prime mover and Doyle's F7 got its damaged prime mover replaced. The Crane Day gallery has now been added to the Gallery section. It contains 29 photos of the PA's prime mover being placed in the engine.

Quoth Doyle, "The PA has a voice." That is, the horn has been installed. Mr. Phil Barney has been kind enough to send two more photo-updates. Links to the photos are provided below, along with a link to the photo from the previous update (for those who have not yet seen it). I will make a new gallery for these and other images during the coming week.

I have posted a new photo gallery with some images of the "assembly" process, including the installation of the sheet metal and some engine room shots. These photos were taken over the last three months. I have about 20 more images which I will be adding to this gallery in the near future. To view this gallery, follow this link.

The last several months have found Doyle busy with frequent trips to Canada to help run the Canadian Pacific's steam engine, and his time in Portland has been occupied with the Daylight repaint project. Consequently, progress with the 190 has slowed somewhat. Volunteers have finished most of the wiring for the lighting in the nose, including all relevant conduit work. Additionally, the interior of the nose has been painted, and painting continues elsewhere inside the carbody. The compressor and equipment rack have been reseated on bolsters in order to vertically align them with critical parts on the prime mover. When he has found the time, Doyle has been working with the side panels and the cab door frames, where some work remains in aligning the mounting holes on both. I will post more news and images as I receive them.

Work is once again progressing on the 190 at a brisk pace. Doyle & Co. have nearly completed its "skin" on the engineers side--see photo--and have begun inspecting the piston movement in the engine. A full gallery will appear on the site this evening.
